Loftus Interview
Loftus create some of the finest noise the west coast has heard and in their full length “Hugs and Drugs” the band has created a noisy heavy album that can’t be called hardcore exactly but bears elements of a much larger sound combined with core techniques that allows for engagement on many levels. Loftus bassist Casey gave TheHXC a brief look at the motivation of the band.
TheHXC: What's the story behind the band name?
Casey: A stories a story and a name’s a name.
TheHXC: Given the title of your full length "Hugs and Drugs" would you say Loftus advocates both hugs and drugs? Which is preferred?
Casey: The Loftus entity does not necessarily support nor advocate anything in particular.
TheHXC: The album has great production, it pulls this very large sound out of you guys that you can hear on your earlier material, who did you work with?
Casey: All our material has been a constant battle with ourselves and our surroundings. Our great production and large sound you speak of can be greatly contributed to mechanical advancements and our willingness to pursue them.
TheHXC: Loftus is not hardcore, and not quite screamo, where do your influences come from?
Casey: Nature
TheHXC: Do you enjoy just as much slower music as you do heavy?
Casey: Yes
TheHXC: Given all of your earlier material was an abundance, do you think you guys will ever re record any of it?
Casey: No
TheHXC: Is there another full length already planned?
Casey: Something’s always in the works. A full length is near.
TheHXC: Will there be an east coast Loftus tour?
Casey: We’ll journey east, yes we’ll plant our seeds
To venture deep marching through your streets
Flat on your back, yes your legs open wide
To have something to eat and a nice place to hide
TheHXC: Does the title of the full length reflect on the lyrics?
Casey: The title of the full length does not reflect on any way the words came about, but does play a role in supporting as well as interacting with the words of the songs.
TheHXC: Given the influences of Loftus, do you see the band evolving differently in the future? It seems you guys could do many things with your sound.
Casey: Our music, like ourselves, is constantly evolving. Our sights are always aimed at progressing and pushing every sound in different and unique ways.
TheHXC: That's all for me, is there anything you would like to add?
Casey: I’ve noticed many things lately and I’m not impressed.
