AIDEN Vocalist Defends Controversial New Song

Aiden fans will hear the band breaking a lot of new ground on the band’s forthcoming Victory record. Tackling varied musical direction and even controversial subjects, the group says they are making an honest effort to distance themselves from shallow expectations in creative development.

Along with many changes in the band’s sound come strong messages, particularly in the new track “Teenage Queen.” The band’s frontman, wiL Francis says of the track’s thematic content, “There are a lot of kids that come to our shows that are homosexuals, or gay,” Francis states, “Seeing the strength of those kids that come, being a minority inside of a minority is truly one of the most amazing things. To be able to witness that and see such strength…”

“If you’re fifteen and you’re gay, life is confusing” The tattooed singer tells. “Kids are f$%!ing mean, and parents are f$%!ing mean. Kids don’t know what the f$%! is going on. They feel like total outcasts. Seeing some of those fans come to shows and seeing people treating them like s$%! because they’re gay, it’s so inspiring to see them stand up to it.

Seeing his fans display such courage in the face of public scrutiny inspired the singer to write “Teenage Queen. “It’s a song about coming out, about being who you really are. It’s not necessarily only about being gay; it’s about being who you are” Francis says. “For me, I felt like I couldn’t really be who I was when I was growing up. I acted a certain way in front of my mom, a certain way in front of my friends, a certain way in front of the cops, or in front of teachers at school. I wanted to write a song about being beautiful, and being who you are, no matter what happens. People at schools, people at shows treat you like your different. They call you ugly or they call you fat, they say mean things. It’s a song about coming out and being who you are no matter what they think. It’s a song about coming out and saying “F$%! You.”

Aiden is set to perform at the Virgin Music Festival on August 5th. Upon the release of the group’s new record, “Conviction,” this August 21st, the band will head to the UK for a string of dates in support of the album.
