The Black Maria wins Yahoo! contest
Yahoo! Music's continuing commitment to discovering fresh talent dominated at this year's SxSW with a phenomenal battle-of-the-bands showdown at the "Who's Next?" showcase where Canadian import, The Black Maria, stole the show as the runaway breakthrough performance of the evening. The concert, featuring four up-and-coming artists - The Black Maria, Pitty Sing, The Honorary Title and Tegan & Sara - was streamed on the Yahoo! Music website (http://music.yahoo.com) where fans and online visitors voted on who would be the next breakout talent, with The Black Maria garnering 34% of the vote.
"As a new band from Canada, it's an exciting opportunity to get The Black Maria sound out to a worldwide market, and no one reaches more music fans than Yahoo! Music," said The Black Maria vocalist Chris Gray. "We have really enjoyed working on the project and cannot wait for the feedback from fans when the feature goes live."
The Black Maria's eclectic blend of post hardcore and radio ready rock n' roll is a blast from the past that is both aurally appealing and refreshing, but updated with a contemporary twist becomes positively groundbreaking. New and existing fans can learn more about The Black Maria and enjoy an exclusive performance by this talented quintet beginning April 4 on the "Who's Next?" page of Yahoo! Music http://music.yahoo.com/promotions/whosnext/. Their debut album "Lead Us To Reason" is available now from Victory Records. The band is currently on tour with Rise Against in support of the new album, visit www.victoryrecords.com for tour dates and more.
